Meherrin River Regional Jail Overview

The Alberta Main Facility is operated by the Meherrin River Regional Jail Authority, not by the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office. MRRJ serves Brunswick County, Dinwiddie County, and Mecklenburg County. The regional model explains why the public roster is not branded as a Brunswick County jail roster and why search results may include people from outside Brunswick County.

The official MRRJ About page says the regional jail opened on July 1, 2012 as a joint effort by the three counties. The project cost $52 million, employed about 189 people, and achieved LEED certification. The main facility is the local custody point for Brunswick County arrest bookings, pretrial detention, local-responsible offenders, visits, mail, inmate accounts, phone calls, programs, and public records requests tied to jail operations.

Brunswick County Jail Capacity

MRRJ's own About page gives the Alberta Main Facility a housing capacity of 697 offenders. Research also found a Dinwiddie County page using 677, so the MRRJ-published figure is the better source for this facility page. The capacity describes the regional facility, not just the Brunswick County share of the jail population.

The facility has a support building for administration, food service, laundry, intake and booking, medical, visitation, and similar jail operations. Its housing building contains dormitories, cells, recreation, and security areas. Annual-report material also describes separate housing for protective custody, administrative segregation, disciplinary custody, female work release, general-population female offenders, male general population, male work release, and medical needs.

Search Meherrin River Regional Jail

The official lookup route is the MRRJ JailTracker current-offender roster. The roster is designed for current offenders, and the client fields include name search, agency options, booking number, arresting agency, charges, bond, court fields, holds, facility, status, VINE fields, and image fields when enabled by the agency.

MRRJ Visitation Schedule

MRRJ says all family and friend visits are conducted through tablets added to the housing units, and visitors must register through GettingOut/GTL Connect. The schedule covers all housing units, including special management units, except disciplinary custody. Visits are monitored, and rule violations can suspend or end a visit.

MRRJ Mail Rules

Family and friend correspondence for MRRJ offenders is scanned through the Phoenix, Maryland address. Legal mail, books, and subscriptions use the Alberta address. Money orders by mail are not accepted and incoming mail with money orders is returned except for legal mail and approved publisher items.

MRRJ Phone and Money

MRRJ uses ViaPath/ConnectNetwork for phone access. At booking, every offender receives two free five-minute calls. After that, calls are prepaid debit or collect, can be monitored or recorded, and are limited to 15 minutes. Housing phones are available from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. unless lockdown, emergency, or staff restrictions apply.

Programs and Jail Conditions

MRRJ's program page lists GED, substance-abuse education, anger management, life skills, ministry, law library, general library, special education programs, and volunteer involvement from the member counties. GED participation is tied to TABE academic assessment, and substance-abuse education is described as an eight-week class. Life skills cover employment, credit, budgeting, resumes, education, and college information.

The Alberta medical housing unit has four exam rooms, a dental laboratory, three individual cells, and a three-bed medical ward. MRRJ also publishes a PREA zero-tolerance policy. Administrative PREA investigations are handled by an MRRJ investigator, while criminal investigations for the Alberta site are handled by the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.

For court charges after booking, use the Virginia Judiciary portals or the Brunswick Circuit Court Clerk. The MRRJ roster is a custody tool, not the final court record.
